Astrocartography

Have you ever wondered if your life could be better in another part of the world? Why do you have such intense connections with certain people from a particular city? Could you discover the best place for your personal growth? Astrocartography might be the answer.

Astrocartography is a technique within astrology used to interpret how planetary positions affect different geographical locations on Earth.

Developed by astrologer Jim Lewis in the 1970s, astrocartography combines traditional astrology with geography.

When you generate your natal chart, you'll see a map displaying astrological influences in various parts of the world.

You’ll notice many lines indicating the different energies across the globe, showing how we can develop various activities depending on where these lines are located.

What to Consider in Astrocartography

Planetary Lines and Planet Symbols.

Each line represents the position of a planet in relation to Earth at the time of your birth. There are four main types of lines that reflect the angles in your natal chart, and everything revolves around these lines.

Ascendant Line (AC): This line shows the locations where the planet was on the eastern horizon (rising) at the time of your birth. Ascendant lines are associated with personal identity and how you present yourself to the world.

Midheaven Line (MC): It reflects the locations where the planet was at the highest point in the sky (at the Midheaven) during your birth. Midheaven lines are linked to career, reputation, and public achievements.

Descendant Line (DC): It shows where the planet was on the western horizon (setting) at the time of your birth. Descendant lines are connected to relationships, partnerships, and how you interact with others.

Imum Coeli Line (IC): This line indicates the places where the planet was at the lowest point in the sky (at the Imum Coeli) during your birth. IC lines are associated with home, family, and private life.

When you view your map, you'll be able to identify each planet along these lines.

Planets in Your Astrocartography

Each planet has a specific influence, and depending on its position, these influences manifest differently in various parts of the world. In general, these are the characteristics of each planet, but keep in mind that this doesn't guarantee success in a specific area, as the expression of each planet can be modified by its aspects.

Sun: Represents vitality, ego, and core identity. Sun lines may indicate places where a person feels more centered and energized.

Moon: Associated with emotions, the subconscious, and emotional needs. Moon lines can point to places where a person feels emotionally connected or sensitive.

Mercury: Linked to communication, intellect, and commerce. Mercury lines may suggest places where communication, trade, and learning come more easily.

Venus: Connected to love, beauty, and relationships. Venus lines can indicate places favorable for romantic relationships and aesthetic appreciation.

Mars: Represents energy, action, and desire. Mars lines may signal locations where a person feels more motivated and dynamic.

Jupiter: Associated with expansion, luck, and growth. Jupiter lines may suggest places where a person experiences opportunities and growth.

Saturn: Linked to discipline, restrictions, and life lessons. Saturn lines may indicate places where a person faces challenges and learns important life lessons.

Uranus: Represents innovation, change, and individuality. Uranus lines may signal places where a person experiences changes and seeks originality.

Neptune: Associated with spirituality, dreams, and illusions. Neptune lines may indicate places where a person feels more spiritually connected or confused.

What’s the importance of consulting an astrologer for your astrocartography?

While astrocartography provides an initial view of how planetary positions can influence different geographical locations, it’s crucial to consult an astrologer for a more detailed and personalized analysis. Even if a line crosses a country or city, remember that the planet is still in your natal chart and activates other areas of your life in the relocated chart.

Yes, the relocated chart. This is your chart for the city where you plan to move.

Your astrologer can explain how the different planetary influences interact in a given location and create a relocated natal chart for any place you're considering. This chart shows how your energy and experiences can change in that new environment. The relocated chart takes into account the new Ascendant, Midheaven, and other key points that can significantly alter the interpretation of your original natal chart. Your astrologer should review this relocated chart, at least to confirm important points, and can also identify the best locations for various aspects of your life, such as career, love, health, and personal growth.

In addition to astrological interpretation, an astrologer can provide practical advice on how to take advantage of planetary influences in different places and help you plan travel, relocations, or important decisions with greater precision and confidence.

What is Astrocartography used for?

Astrocartography can help identify places where you are more likely to experience well-being, personal growth, and satisfaction in different aspects of your life.

  • You can identify cities that support your professional and academic development.

  • Travel destinations where you might feel more energized, relaxed, or emotionally fulfilled.

  • It helps avoid destinations where you might face more obstacles or tensions.

  • It helps make choices more aligned with your goals and personal well-being, based on planetary influences.

However, like everything in astrology, it’s not a magical solution. You may have the perfect environment for growth, but you also need to help the universe make things happen. Moving to a new place won’t automatically eliminate all your personal or professional challenges, but it can help and be beneficial. Difficulties may still exist, although they may manifest differently.

It’s said that after two years, one starts to take on the characteristics of the country they move to. Relocating to a new country or city involves adaptation and may bring both advantages and challenges that aren’t directly related to planetary influences.

It’s important to have realistic expectations and understand that astrocartography is just one tool among many that can assist in personal development. Often, we can see in the astrocartography map certain cities that resonate with a part of our history.

My Personal Experience with Astrocartography

I’ve had a strong connection with Milan, where I currently live, and in my astrocartography, I have Mercury on the Midheaven (MC) in this city. The first time I visited was on a short Christmas trip in 2014, and I was struck by how beautiful and imposing the city is. I’ve visited many cities, but Milan is the one that made me say, “Wow! What an impression.” Then, in 2015, I did an Erasmus in Prague (coincidentally, the same line passes very close), and I met several people who lived in Milan and traveled continuously to the city. I visited Milan again in 2016 and 2017.

Having Mercury on the MC in this city suggests I could excel in professions that require communication skills, teaching, marketing, and public relations. It could be an excellent place for studying, obtaining academic degrees, negotiating, and more.

I’m an astrologer, and communication is part of my daily life. From teaching classes to having 1:1 consultations with people. Additionally, I earned my Master’s degree in Architecture at the Politecnico di Milano. This city is where my career as an astrologer and architect began to flourish. I learned a third language and use it daily.

There are many more details I could share, but I’ll save that for later. Having Mercury on the Midheaven in my astrocartography has been a positive influence on my professional and personal life. It has facilitated the development of my communication, intellectual, and analytical skills. It has boosted my career. Though other areas may not have been as “active,” perhaps the time will come later to move and activate those areas.

Can you create an astrocartography map without knowing your natal chart?

Yes, you can.

Can you create an astrocartography map without knowing your birth time?

No, unfortunately, this won’t be possible. I’ve also seen how the minutes are very important in astrocartography because the lines shift, and there is a marked difference.
